Saint Mark 10:9

Brothers and Sisters,

There’s something exciting coming.

Recently, I was able to hang out with two really great friends of mine: Joey and Stephen. The occasion: this was the last time that the three of us would be able to hang out before both of them get married later this very Summer (Joey in July and Stephen in August).

While, of course, I will be giving them and their spouses a gift on their wedding day, I gave them both a pre-wedding gift: a rosary.

While this may seem like no big deal to many of us, this was a watershed moment for my friends. For years of our friendship I have been talking to them about the importance of the Rosary, especially in praying for your family. Since this was the last time that I would be able to hang out with them before their respective weddings I thought this would be the ideal time to give them this gift.

I had a friend of mine custom make these Rosaries for Joey and Stephen. I gave them to Joey and Stephen with the instruction that it is now time for them to be entirely selfless – in their marriages they will give up what is theirs for the good of their spouses. As a statement, that is inspiriting; as a fact of life, it is both challenging and even scary.

The Sacrament of Marriage takes its form from Christ on the Cross (more on this later this year). The Savior gave up His life for our good; husband and wife do the same for one another.

I will be away from our parishes for both of these weddings. I will be praying for all of you while I am away; I warmly request that you pray for my friends as they begin their marriages: Joey will marry Jaqueline on 15 July, Stephen will marry Rachael on 06 August.

God be near, Father Jeremy Pastor
