Fifth Sunday of Easter

Quintus Dominicus Paschae

When now, in music, God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride.

It is as though the whole creation cried:  alleluia.

Then, once upon a bitter afternoon, HIS Passion ended in a stone-cold tomb,

and the apostles hid in upper room, alleluia.

But on the third day, in the morning hour, as Mary came to Tomb to place a flower

Christ had risen by HIS Divine Power, alleluia.

Let every instrument be tuned for praise, let all rejoice who have a voice to raise,

and may God give us strength to say always “alleluia.”

For did not Jesus sing a psalm that night, when deep hell strove against Heaven’s light

and did not Christ prevail throughout the fight?  Alleluia.

Praised now be God the FATHER, and the SON, and HOLY GHOST, Trinity ever one.

For Christ has triumphed and HIS course has run, alleluia.

ANTIPHON:         O sing a new song to the LORD, for HE has worked wonders;

in the sight of the nations HE has shown HIS deliverance, alleluia.

  1. Psalms 98:1-2

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing:  alleluia, alleluia.

We, too, in morning sing HIS praise, as well, in evening, prayers we raise:  R.

Refrain:         HE is risen, alleluia.  HE is risen, alleluia.  Alleluia.

Both when good or bad come our way, in every time we all must say:  alleluia, alleluia.

In every good the LORD is here, through every bad the LORD is near.  R.

For even when we’re faced with death, and it shall hush our final breath, O praise HIM, alleluia.

Through life and death, we are the LORD’s; in Heaven may we see rewards.

Let all things their CREATOR bless, and worship HIM in humbleness, alleluia, alleluia.

Praise God the FATHER, God the SON, and God the SPIRIT, three in one.  R.

Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7

As the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews
because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid hands on them. The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly; even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

Psalms 33:1, 2, 4, 5, 18, 18

Exult, you just, in the LORD;

praise from the upright is fitting.

Give thanks to the LORD on the harp;

with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises.

Upright is the word of the LORD,
and all his works are trustworthy.
He loves justice and right;
of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full.

See, the eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him,
upon those who hope for his kindness,
To deliver them from death
and preserve them in spite of famine.

First Saint Peter 2:4-9

Beloved: Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God, and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it says in Scripture: Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame. Therefore, its value is for you who have faith, but for those without faith: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, and A stone that will make people stumble, and a rock that will make them fall. They stumble by disobeying the word, as is their destiny. You are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Christ the LORD is Risen Today

Christ the LORD is risen today; Christians, haste your vows to pay.

Make your joy and praises known at the PASCHAL VICTIM’S Throne.

For the sheep, the LAMB has bleed, sinless in the sinner’s stead.

Christ the LORD is risen on high, now HE lives no more to die.

Christ the VICTIM undefiled, God and sinners reconciled,

When in strange and awful strife, met together death and life.

Christians on this happy day, haste with joy your vows to pay.

Christ the LORD is risen on high, now HE lives no more to die.

Hallowed, this the dawn of praise, Easter – queen of all our days;

From all compass points come forth:  East and West and South and North.

Let the peoples praise YOU, LORD; be, by all that is, adored.

Let all nations shout and sing:  glory, praise the PASCHAL KING.

Say, O wondering Mary, say what you saw along the way:

I beheld where Christ was lain:  empty Tomb and angels twain.

I beheld the glory, bright, of the risen LORD of light,

Christ, my LORD is risen again; now HE lives and lives to reign.

Christ, WHO once, for sinners bled, now the firstborn from the dead.

Throned in endless might and power, lives and reigns forevermore.

Hail, ETERNAL HOPE on high, hail our King of Victory.

Hail, THOU Prince of Life adored.  Help and save us, gracious LORD.

Alleluia, ALLELUIA, Alleluia, ALLELUIA, Alleluia, ALLELUIA

I AM the way, the truth and the life, says the LORD;

no one comes to the FATHER, except through ME. (John 14:6).

Alleluia, ALLELUIA, Alleluia, ALLELUIA, Alleluia, ALLELUIA

Saint John 14:1-12

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.”

New songs of celebration render to God WHO has great wonders done.

Love sits enthrones in ageless splendor, come and adore the MIGHTY ONE.

God has made know the great salvation, which all the saints with joy confess.

God has revealed to every nation Truth and unending righteousness.

Joyfully, heartily resounding, let every instrument and voice,

Peal out the praise of grace abounding calling the whole world to rejoice.

Trumpets and organs set in motion such sounds as make the Heavens ring.

All things that live and Earth & ocean sound forth the song, your praises bring.

Rivers and seas with torrents roaring, honor the LORD with wild acclaim.

Mountains and stones, look up adoring, and find a voice to praise HIS Name.

Righteous, commanding, ever glorious, praises be sung that never cease.

Just is our God, WHOSE Truth victorious establishes the world in peace.

ANTIPHON:         I AM the True Vine and you are the branches, says the LORD,

Whoever remain in ME and I in him bears fruit in plenty, alleluia

  1. John 15:1, 5

Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven, to HIS feet your tribute bring.

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, ever more HIS praises sing.

Alleluia, alleluia.  Praise the everlasting King.

Praise HIM for HIS grace and favor to HIS people in distress.

Praise HIM still the same as ever:  slow to chide and swift to bless,

Alleluia, alleluia, glorious in HIS faithfulness.

Father-like, HE tends and spares us; well, our feeble frame, HE knows.

In HIS Hands HE gently bears us, rescues of from all our foes.

Alleluia, alleluia.  Widely yet, HIS mercy flows.

Frail as summer’s flower we flourish, blows the wind and it is gone,

But, while mortals rise and perish, God endures, unchanging, on.

Alleluia, alleluia.  Praise the high, eternal ONE.

Angels, help us to adore HIM, you behold Him face to face.

Sun and moon, bow down before HIM; dwellers, all, in time and space.

Alleluia, alleluia.  Praise with us the God of grace.

Joyful, joyful, we adore THEE, God of glory, LORD of love.

Heart unfold like flowers before YOU, opening to the Sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away.

GIVER OF ETERNAL GLADNESS, fill us with the Light of Day.

All THY works with joy surround THEE, Earth and Heaven reflect THY rays.

Star and angels sing around THEE, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

Chanting bird and flowing fountain:  sound praise to eternity!

THOU are giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,

God our FATHER, Christ our Brother, let YOUR Light upon us shine.

Teach us now to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus, which the morning stars began;

God’s own love is reigning over us, join the angels hand-in-hand.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sun-ward in the triumph song of life.

from First Saint Peter 1:8

Refrain:        Without seeing YOU, we love YOU.

Without touching YOU, we embrace.

Without knowing YOU, we follow.

Without seeing YOU, we believe.

We return to YOU deep within, leave the past to the dust.

Turn to YOU with tears and fasting, YOU are ready to forgive.

The sparrow will find a home, near to YOU, O my God.

How happy we who dwell with YOU forever in YOUR House.

For ever we sing to YOU, of YOUR goodness, O God,

Proclaiming to all the world of YOUR faithfulness and love.

For YOU are our SHEPHERD, there is nothing that we need.

In green pastures we will find our rest, near the waters of YOUR peace.
